Spider bite

Debridement of a hand due to necrosis after being bit by a spider!! 😱🕷
.
Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection that spreads rapidly into the body’s soft tissues, destroying skin, subcutaneous fat and fascia. Most of the time, bug bites are a nuisance. They’re itchy and irritating, but generally harmless. Once in a while, however, a spider bite will require medical attention, and even wound care if the bite becomes infected. It’s important to know when to put the calamine lotion down and actually see a doctor.
.
Since spider bites break the skin, it’s not uncommon for them to get infected. People mindlessly scratch them if they itch, sometimes with dirty nails. It’s important to take care of your spider bite to keep it from becoming an infected wound or developing into cellulitis.
.
If the area around the bite continues to grow and increase in pain, it is probably infected. For minor infections, it can be treated by washing the wound site a few times a day, putting antibiotic ointment on it and covering it with a clean bandage. If the bite begins to drain liquid, especially if it’s cloudy or thick, or if there are red streaks traveling from the infected site, the infection is more dangerous and could be cellulitis.
.
Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that causes the skin to get red, hot and tender. In severe cases the skin may even blister. The infection can spread further from the wound site if it’s left untreated and can be potentially life-threatening.
.
If you or a loved one are experiencing these conditions, go to the emergency room immediately to prevent any further complications. Stay safe and stay healthy everyone! 🤓
